How to use Green Eco Bookmarks - Click here for visual help!

Green Eco Bookmarks is a community bookmarking website, for people who share a common interest in green and eco activities and want a means to collect, organize and share related bookmarks. People can bookmark their favorite green and eco websites. If any non green or eco websites are bookmarked, they will be removed, as we want to focus on this community. This is also to prevent link spam.

As people bookmark sites, they can set their bookmarks as public, for everyone to see, or private, not for public view or for their eyes only. In this way, people build bookmark lists that can be seen by all other members of the community, except if a bookmark is marked as private.

To add a bookmark you must be logged into the Green Eco Bookmarks website. Then click the add a bookmark link located at the top of the website.

When you select public, it means you want everyone to be able to see the bookmark and it will be displayed on the main bookmark list. This is the most common option and is therefore the default. If you do not want anyone to see the bookmark but yourself, then select the private option. And if you do not want it to be public but do want to share the bookmark with people on your watchlist, then select the Shared with Watchlist option.

Click the Add Bookmark button to save the bookmark to your bookmark list.

How to tag a bookmark

People are often confused about what tags are and what tags they should add to their bookmarks.

Tags are keywords. The tag list associated with a bookmark must be comma delinated. The tags associated with a bookmark help to categorize the bookmark correctly in relation to similar bookmarks. Each tag used becomes a category. When many bookmarks use the same tag, that tag increases in popularity and so the size of the tag displayed on the front of the Green Eco Bookmarks website is increased in font size.

When tagging it is important to apply only keywords that are relevant to the website you are bookmarking. This ensures that the bookmark will be easily found when people search for a keyword and will ensure a higher quality of traffic to a website. It is not a good practice to spray a bookmark with every keyword you can think of just so that it will be listed in as many categories as possible. This practice detracts from the bookmark and will generated non-optimzed traffic to the target website, which means a waste of bandwidth on the target site and a reduced conversion ratio between the number of website visitors and te number of people converted to customers on the target site. Liberal, thoughtless use of tags on a bookmark is considered poor etiquet by the community and may even be considered spam. Administrators may then delete the bookmark altogether and you will have wasted your time.
